I initially started the evening [acupuncture school] program in winter 2006 with the intention of transferring into the day-schedule within my first year. I was concerned that an evening schedule for three-and-1/3 years would be exhausting and that I would have a difficult time focusing and retaining information. I was also less than enthused to give up my evenings with friends and family. The first few weeks did not faze me because I was excited to start school and didn’t feel like dozing off in class!
For a short time I remained adamant that I was going to switch to the day schedule, then, slowly but surely, I became accustomed to night classes.
I enjoy sleeping in and studying during the afternoon when I’m more awake and energized.
The night program has allowed me to begin a part-time position during the day, which doesn’t affect my class schedule and provides flexibility for other employment possibilities. In addition, I was able to take a class during the day schedule to catch up on progress with out interfering with night courses. When I was presented with the opportunity to take a daytime class instead of a Friday night class, I have not taken a Friday night class since, nor am I behind in credits.
There is a higher student teacher ratio and each student receives individual attention. I am completing my third trimester at AIMC Berkeley in the evening acupuncture school program and do not plan to transfer into the day schedule. And… classes get out by 10 pm at the latest so there’s still time to see a friend!
