Explore Japanese Acupuncture with the Masters at the Tokyo Seminar

August 6–12, 2008
AIMC Berkeley’s second annual Japanese Acupuncture Tokyo Seminar will take place on August 5–12, 2008. This weeklong immersion experience in Japanese acupuncture gives American acupuncturists a rare opportunity to learn directly from well-known Japanese acupuncture masters including Okada Akizo, ShudoDenmei, Ikeda Masakazu, Katai Shuichi, Togasaki Masao and Yamada Katsuhiro. Stephen Brown, a licensed acupuncturist from Seattle who is fluent in Japanese, will interpret for the entire seminar with a bilingual support staff. CEUs will be provided for Licensed Acupuncturists.

The Tokyo Seminar is cosponsored by AIMC Berkeley with Tokyo’s Goto College of Arts & Sciences and the Japanese Meridian Therapy Association. Highlights of the week include the Meridian Therapy Association’s summer conference and the opportunity to receive treatments from well-known teachers.

August 6
Dr. Katai Shuichi, leader of the World Health Organization’s Japanese acupuncture point location standardization team and author of How to Create a Practitioner’s Hand, will describe the history of Japanese acupuncture’s evolution through history, and demonstrate the importance of touch in Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion with Togasaki-sensei.

August 7
Yamada Katsuhiro will demonstrate Sawada-style acupuncture and moxibustion, and Goto College senior faculty will demonstrate the use of “Sesshoku-shin (non-invasive techniques)” for children and sensitive patients, and the use of intradermal needles.

August 8–10
Participants will join the Meridian Therapy Association’s summer conference, with lectures and practical demonstrations by world-renowned masters like Okada Akizo, Ikdea Masakazu,ShudoDenmei and many more. On the last day of the conference, participants will receive treatments from the masters, and practice needling techniques with experienced practitioners from all over Japan.Dinner party at Grand Palace Hotel celebrating the Association’s 50th anniversary at the night of first day.

August 11
A day of sightseeing in Kamakura, an ancient capital that is home to the 13th century Great Buddha of Kotokuin Temple, the largest Buddha statue in Japan, andexperience the “Zen practice” at Enkaku-ji, a famous 16th century Zen temple. Dr. HiromichiYasui, and expert in Kampo will give a lecture on how Kampo usage of herbal formulas differs from TCM. Participants who agree to submit clinical reports will receive free Kampo formulas with a retail value of over $1,000.

August 12
The final day will have Dr. Ryoichi Obitsu, president emeritus of Obitsu Sankei Hospital, which provides holistic treatment to people with cancer, lecture on integrative medicine. Participants will receive certification of completion of the entire seminar from Dr. Goto, the chairman of Goto College of Arts & Sciences and Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College, Berkeley at Closing Ceremony following the lecture.

Participants receive a special discounted price on accommodations at the Omori Tokyo Inn, a five-minute walk from Goto College, $130 for twin rooms, and $90 for single rooms. ($65 per person if sharing twin room)
