Your training and education in Chinese herbal medicine starts at the end of the first trimester with an introduction to the categories of traditional Chinese herbs in the Traditional Oriental Medicine Theory class. In the second and third trimesters you learn over 350 single herbs, including functions, indications, dosages, channels entered, temperatures, and contraindications.
In the fourth and fifth trimesters you learn how to combine single herbs to make over 150 formulae, including traditional functions, clinical indications, modifications and contraindications, along with the activity of individual herbs within the formulae. In the fourth trimester you also learn about herb-drug interactions, adulterants and mis-labeling in Pharmacology and Toxicology of Oriental Herbs. You will reinforce all this knowledge with review classes and comprehensive exams covering single herbs in the fifth trimester and herbal formulas in the sixth trimester.
